Thymosin Alpha-1 10 mg

28-amino-acid immune modulator · approved in 35+ countries, never in the US

An acetylated 28-amino-acid peptide, isolated in 1977 from thymosin fraction 5 of calf thymus. It is marketed as Zadaxin (thymalfasin, SciClone Pharmaceuticals) and is approved in more than 35 countries, mostly in Asia and Latin America, for chronic hepatitis B and C and as an immune stimulant or adjuvant. It was never approved by the FDA in the United States: it reached late-stage trials for hepatitis C and melanoma in the US and Europe in the late 2000s, but a search of the Drugs@FDA database (accessdata.fda.gov) for "thymalfasin" and "Zadaxin" returns no approved product. It has also been studied as an adjunct treatment in severe sepsis, as a vaccine booster (influenza, hepatitis B) and, during the pandemic, in severe COVID-19.
