BPC-157

Gastric pentadecapeptide · nearly all published data are animal work

A 15-amino-acid chain derived from a sequence found in human gastric juice. In rodents it speeds closure of tendon, muscle and intestinal wounds, an effect attributed to new vessel formation and the nitric oxide pathway. A PubMed search for "BPC 157" returns 226 records, 175 of which list Sikirić, the Croatian group that first described it, as an author. In humans only three uncontrolled pilot studies exist, with fewer than 30 subjects in total.

TB-500

Acetylated thymosin β4 fragment · not one human study

A synthetic heptapeptide with an acetylated N-terminus, corresponding to residues 17–23 of thymosin β4, the actin-binding region. Its chemical identity was established in 2012 by an anti-doping laboratory analysing the marketed product. It is not the same molecule as thymosin β4: the full protein has 43 amino acids and weighs about 4963 Da, against 889 Da for the fragment. Every human study cited in its support was run with the full-length protein, not with this fragment.
